CD cover designs

A Color & Design assignment to design and paint a CD cover in gouache with a mainly monochromatic pallet. I settled on the red, overly aggressive an' depressive 'emo' one, but had alot of fun experimenting with making some digital mocks ups depicting two other very different genres; blue for calm, ambient, (maybe in the the vein of Touhou) trance, Earthcreator would contain something along the lines of drum & base or heavy psy trance with an aboriginal Australian vibe. I whipped up some song titles for fun to just exaggerate common themes in the genres.

Just designing Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, more commonly known by his Roman name Bacchus. I wanted to exaggerate two of his polar opposites descriptions; one a slobbish drunk while the other a handsome party dude adored by his cult follower babes. Designed in my sketchbook & inked/colored digitally.

Just got back from the Platform International Animation Festival in LA; where I saw a prior-cinema screening of Paperman, some Annecy shorts and got to hear from Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira! All in the day after the Calarts Halloween party...and life drawing, which I finally got around to snapping a few shots from. We focused on the head, facial expressions and caricatures this week... Two others are in the display, so i'll upload another time.

A quick caricature of my life drawing teacher!

and having some fun with pastels to wrap up the session....

The days are flying by too quick!

To scan for scanning's sake

Doodles done to ward off the sleepy haze that promptly rolls in about half an' hour into Critical Studies. Oh, and some elsewhere sketches.

Growin' heavy for the vintage....

Here's my contribution to the BFA1 silhouette project. The theme was 'The day I was born' and on my birthdate Steinbeck just happened to die, so I did a lil' Grapes of Wrath tribute. Done with black paper, exacto knife and plenty of patience summoning, yep. Plenty of things to improve on next time I take out the ol' blade, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Just a note; it's roughly the size of my arm span.

A lil' update

Here's a quick sketch done at Yamato restaurant, watercolored afterwards,
 ....and some past weeks lifedrawings.
