winter miscellany

Sierra Nevada winter landscapes evoke the words 'home'  as well as 'mystical' for me.Words so different, yet it's true, It's been a magical place ever since I was old enough to fall into mounds of pure luscious snow. Can't take snowy Christmases for granted. (Sorry Australia, I'll pass on the barbecues and beach parties..)
Surely the most soulful landscape there is.....please never change....

Sassy ostrich & monkey-child fighting duo

....because you know, that video game archetype of cute-kid-an-big-animal. They were probably rejected children's TV show co-stars, and have INSANE agility/speed stats. What can I say, I grew up on Parodious, Waku Waku 7 and Battle Circuit. The assignment was an ostrich and sidekick.

Who's under the sign of Sagittarius?

I am! Centaurs for Rik Maki's class. Pencil & digital color.

...massive language barriers but united through their love of ponies? I'll let you decide.

2014 edit: Someone reposted this to tumblr without my permission, which is mildly annoying. So if you like my work, follow my tumblr instead perhaps?

Aristocratic Vegetables

You read that right, we made paper puppets based on vegetables. Here's the regal grand duchess of Cauliflower, complete with celery & carrot-stick fan. Pardon my gouache-splattered desk.
And some life drawings from today!

UPA style character lineup. I did city people; some I've seen in Australia, some in USA.  Pencil, marker & digital color.
 ...and some preliminary doodles.

Young and old. Big an' small

The prompt was a Peter and the Wolf model sheet so I (vaguely) stuck with the Eastern European/Russian theme. Plenty of things to improve on, but I like to share anyways.

distorted drawings

A funky life drawing exercise from last week, the figure was supposed to touch every edge of the paper.
(Heh, I forgot on that one)
...and the last one got a bit outta' hand...
To end on a sane note...heres some leftovers from this week.
Gah! Posting nothing but life drawings and character designs! My film is steadily coming together though...so more will be seen of that in due time. Over and out~

My interpretation of 'King Rat'.  Of course the King of all Rodents would take on the form of a grungy gangster!  Rough pencils & digital color.

I explored Vasquez Rocks and Placerita Canyon this weekend. Just a few hours stumbling around in some of LA's nature and spending a lil' time with a loved one has got the inspiration flowing again, as it often does.

Here are some (what else?) friday life draws'! Mainly cause everything else I've drawn lately is either for my film or class assignments. 30sec somewhat tonal gestures, yada yada. I'll have more to show from the set of that quirky last one when I get them back.

A few horse character designs from this week.
Experimented with coloring way more on the latter two. They're mythological beasts; one a surly Hippocampi and the other a mischievous Kelpie. Night night~

the usual end of week post

Time keeps flying by! Here are the two lifedrawings I mentioned in that earlier post.
We tried out high contrast drawing this week...
and the usual quick poses...
...and here's an old one I finally got back.
Since life drawings aren't that interesting, here's some sketches exploring this weeks Char Des assignment of a 'horse'. I'm still in a mythological mindset so I sketched some Hippocampi, but have some actual horselike designs I'll probably flesh out instead.
